George Wettling, 1907 – 1968

George Wettling was one of the greatest drummers in Dixieland music and was later prominent in Chicago Style improvised jazz.  He helped other musicians play their best with his uncanny knack of changing patterns behind each soloist.  He cited Baby Dodds as his musical idol.

His orchestral experience included Artie Shaw’s and Bunny Berigan’s outfits.  Eddie Condon was a regular collaborator.  Wettling was on the staff of ABC and gained some acclaim as an artist and as a music critic for Playboy and Down Beat magazines.
